The world around us is full of politics to a certain extent and you can't avoid it even though you need to stay far away from it.
Most of us might have already faced a lot of unjustice and contrariness in our work place.
Some might have experienced this from their colleagues and some of you might have experienced this from your bosses. And there are some naive people who has got oppressed by both.
Most of us have a bad feeling about this because of two reasons. some people use the word of office politic for taking personal revenge on their colleagues or their staff. That is the most disgusting side of this topic. But don't misunderstand this kind of pathetic behaviours of your colleagues or your bosses as office politics. It's just their insecure personalities.
Other side is the way you see it. If you take every word or every act of your colleagues as personal, you will never be able to have a career growth.
Do you know the office politics is actually a good thing for both the company and the staff?
I know that you will think that I'm talking nonsense since many skilled staffs are suffering just because of bad politics inside the office.
Let me explain how you can see the positive side of office politics.
Fist of all you have to observe what kind of political games going around your office. We all loves to work in a pleasant and friendly environment and also we seek a career growth in our profession. Therefore, it is vital to know who has the power, what are unwritten rules and the culture of your office.
Paying attention to people who has power and influence will help you to make a good network in your office. You don't have to compromise your integrity and your work ethic in order to please those influencers. You just need to build proper professional relationships with them while doing the right thing. Their guidance and advices may affect your career growth. Moreover, it is easier to understand the political process when you are closer to them.
Some companies are following some strategies to create a competition in order to increase productivity. This is a very common thing. So first, you have to identify and understand this concept and you have to look at it positively since that can make you a superstar among your colleagues.
Other thing is don't take any feedback from your boss or colleagues personally. Always try to take feedback with an open mind because, feedbacks are important when it comes to your career development.
Now you know that office politics are not that bad if you accept it with a positive mind.
However, office bullying is totally different from office politics and if you are experiencing it you have to escalate to the relevant authorities.
Always remember the reason why you are working in that office. It could be because to pursue your dream or to make a path to pursue your dreams. Think of the struggles that you made in past to get this job.
Now you don't have to sabotage your career just because of office politic. If someone is thinking (including me)“I wish I knew these things at the very beginning of my career”, well you aren’t too late. Because life is full of opportunities to good people who have a faith in them.
